Lisbon Zoo - Portugal

Set in sprawling gardens in the Sete Rios district of Lisbon, the Jardim Zoológico (Lisbon Zoo) has been operating for over a hundred years.

One of the oldest zoos in Europe, it’s much more than one of the best tourist attractions in Lisbon, it’s a place of dedicated conservation, reproduction and the eventual re-introduction of endangered species through scientific study and programmes of environmental enrichment.

Open every single day of the year, Lisbon Zoo (indicated on the Google map below) holds over 2,000 animals representing more than 350 species, and besides all the fascinating creatures to see there are several interesting attractions and events going on throughout the day such as an excellent dolphin and sea-lion show, pelican feeding sessions, free-flying bird presentations, an overhead cable-car, children’s farm, reptile house and the ever-popular zoo train.

The price of a see-everything, do-everything all-day ticket is a reasonable €27.50 with concessions for kids under 12, group members and the over-65s (see www.zoo.pt/en/).
