TORREIRA
Unusually located on a strip of sandy terrain that separates the Ria de Aveiro from the Atlantic Ocean, Torreira is a lively little resort town that fills up with holidaymakers during the summer months.
Only accessible by road from the northern end, it is most notable for its odd dwellings called palheiros, fashioned from the old hulls of boats.
What to see. Torreira’s attractions are mostly leisure based due to its idyllic seaside location. The long sandy coastline attracts large numbers of summer sun-seekers who come to relax on the beach and practice the many water sports available such as sailing and windsurfing.
Away from the centre, the modern Jardins da Ria tourist apartments complex offers a wide range of on-site amenities such as two outdoor swimming pools, tennis courts and a children’s playground.
Nearby. Continuing down the peninsula, the thriving beach resort of São Jacinto backs onto an extensive bird sanctuary, where visitors can learn more about the local wildlife on a 2-hour guided tour.
