The small town of Anadia is the centre of the wine-growing region
of Bairrada, which consists of a stretch of coastline between
the mountains and the southern areas of Oporto. Over eighty
per cent of Bairrada's wines are red, and very popular for their
fruity, tannic taste. What to see: Anadia's main attractions
are two pretty little palaces, one in the town - the palace
of the Count of Anadia - and the house of the Marquês da Graciosa
on the outskirts. Some of Portugal's most famous wine producers
are also located here, including Sogrape and Caves São João.
Visitors are welcome to tour their cellars and taste the wines
before buying. Nearby: A short distance from Anadia are the
two traditional spa resorts of Curia and Luso, whose waters
are good for such health problems as rheumatoid arthritis, high
blood-pressure, kidney stones, gout and diseases of the digestive
system.
