Located 13 km north-west of Faro, Almancil is most notable for
its proxomity to the luxury beach resorts of Quinta do Lago
and Vale do Lobo. The village is also famous for its locally-produced
pottery works in muted colours. What to see. The interior of
the little Church of São Lourenço on the outskirts of Almancil
is covered with fascinating blue-coloured azulejo glazed tiles
depicting the life of the saint, dated 1730 and signed by Policarpo
de Oliveira Bernardes. Nearby. The 1,680-acre complex of Quinta
do Lago is one of the most exclusive developments in Southern
Europe. Comprising a sumptuous five-star hotel, several first-class
restaurants and four championship golf courses, the resort is
a tourist attraction in itself, as too is the upmarket Vale
do Lobo development a little further along the coastline.
