WALKING
Portugal's much varied topography makes rambling and
hiking a delight. Both the Montesinho Natural Park and
Peneda-Gerês National Park in the north of the
country are prepared for walkers, with clearly signposted
routes and several well-organised rest areas. The Serra
da Estrela mountain area is also very popular with walkers.
WATER SPORTS
Surfing, windsurfing, sailing and scuba-diving are regular
activities along Portugal's long stretch of coastline.
Some of Europe's best surfing conditions can be found
at Guincho Beach west of Lisbon, while canoeing and
kayaking is popular on the rivers Modego, Zêzere
and Cávado, among others. Sailing clubs and diving
schools have boats and other nautical equipment for
hire, the majority of which can be found close to the
many marinas dotted along the coast.
